Join us for FREE 1-hour dance and fitness classes for people of all levels and genders!

Always wanted to try out Belly Dance? Ballet? Oula dance fitness? Meditation? Ashtanga Mysore yoga? Here is your opportunity. Five of our teachers are offering nine FREE full-length beginner classes September 4-9, 2018!

All are welcome. These classes are open to people of all fitness levels, genders, body types, and backgrounds. Just show up ready to have fun and learn something new! Exercise or yoga wear is recommended. Bare feet or indoor-only dance shoes. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian present.

Tuesday, September 4 - 12:00 PM - Lunchtime Groove - Joie

Lunchtime Groove is a 50 minute movement fitness class that draws on a variety of contemporary dance styles including belly dance, disco, modern, line dancing, you might even see the macarena! Each class will include a short warmup, a dance session to get your heart pumping, a gentle cool down, and a whole lot of fun! Total beginners welcome.


Tuesday, September 4 - 5:30 PM - Ballet Basics for Adults - Rosa

Learn some of the foundation movements of ballet--and how to do them safely. Ballet will leave you feeling taller and stronger. Open to people of all ages and genders, this class develops both the brain and the body! Exercise/yoga wear and non-grippy socks or ballet slippers recommended. Total beginners welcome!


Tuesday, September 4 - 6:45 PM - Embodied Meditation - Joie

One hour a week just for you and your body. We live in a stressful world where our thoughts are often focused on past mistakes and worries about the future. We live in our heads and taking time for ourselves is generally an afterthought. Embodied Meditation is an hour, a once a week that takes you out of your thoughts and into the now of your body.

Guided by Joie Grandbois, each class begins with a meditative body check in followed by a moving meditation focused on creating connection, compassion, and love for yourself and your body. The class closes with a gentle affirmation to help you bring this sense of embodiment back into the world and through the rest of your week.

There will be time in class for journaling your experience. Moving meditation is accompanied by live music. No experience necessary.


Wednesday, September 5 - 12:00 PM - Lunchtime Shimmy - Rosa

Shake the midweek stress! Learn basic belly dance movements to upbeat music and energize your week. Total beginners are welcome in this fitness-oriented class. No experience necessary!


Wednesday, September 5 - 5:30 PM - Intro to Belly Dance - Rosa

Come learn about movements, rhythms, and cultural context in this beginner belly dance class. You'll be in great company with other brand new dancers delving into movement and tradition in a warm and supportive environment. Yes, total beginners are welcome!


Saturday, September 8 - 8:00 AM - Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Practice - Kate & Rich

Kate and Rich are offering their very first Mysore class at Bright Star for free for experienced students only. Beginners, please attend the Intro to Mysore Class which starts at 10:00 AM.

NOTE: 2-hour class, for experienced students only. Beginners can join the 10:00 AM class.


Saturday, September 8 - 10:00 AM - Intro to Mysore Yoga - Kate & Rich

This is the first of a 4-class series, an introduction to the method of mysore-style ashtanga yoga. Over the course of one month, students will learn the underlying philosophy, benefits of practice, sun salutations and standing sequence. Students are welcome to come explore the first class for free, and then have the option to enroll in the full series or in the morning Mysore program. Total beginners welcome.


Sunday, September 9 - 8:15 AM - Oula Dance Fitness - Karli & Danna

Oula is a high energy, calorie burning, crazy-fun dance workout to Top 40s hits. Classes are one epic hour of sweat, joy, and total inspiration. Oula is dancemania for the soul! Indoor-only sneakers recommended, bare feet OK. Total beginners welcome!
